Frequently Asked Questions

Let Us Help You Understand the Benefits of Our Practice

  • What Is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?

Direct Primary Care is a way to get high quality, comprehensive healthcare from a doctor who cares, all for a low, flat monthly fee. Direct Doctor Care provides care at a reasonable price without the interference of insurance. It's that simple. No insurance, no corporate health system, no middlemen. Just doctors and patients.

We establish direct relationships with our patients by charging an affordable monthly membership fee and offer unmatched accessibility and quality of care.

  • What makes Direct Primary Care such a great model?

The biggest difference you'll find between Direct Doctor Care and traditional family practices is the number of patients we see.

Most family medicine doctors have 1,500-3,000 patients. With Direct Doctor Care, you'll be part of an intimate family practice where each physician sees hundreds of patients compared to thousands. This allows us to get you in to be seen when you really need it. No more shuffling you off to the urgent care or emergency depart for issues that could be taken care of in a clinic. No more waiting for months to see your doctor.

Our model also allows us to take care of many issues over the phone or video conference, eliminating the need to come into the office altogether for many issues.

  • What sets Direct Doctor Care apart from traditional family medicine practices?

    Unlimited Access

We can be reached anytime. After hours, weekends, holidays, and even when you are on vacation. Just pick up the phone and call, text, or send an email.

    Lengthened Visits

No need to feel rushed during your visits at Direct Doctor Care. We offer visits of 30 or 60 minutes. You won't feel rushed through an appointment and there's never a question you won't have time to ask.

    Same Day Visits

Be seen when you need it. If we can't get you in today, we will be able to see you tomorrow.

    Teletech Visits

What's the point of living in the 21st century if you don't utilize technology? After establishing care, you can reach our team by phone, e-mail, text, and webcam.

    Transparency

As your health care team we want you to succeed. We hope to make things are clear as possible whether it is our plan of treatment, billing, or any other communications. If you have questions, please ask.

    Decreased out of pocket expenses

Many of our patients not only get more access to their doctor but also save money, sometimes hundreds of dollars, because we help people avoid urgent care and emergency department visits, have no visit copays, and offer wholesale labs, imaging, and medications.

  • What else is included in my membership?

    An annual physical

This exam will be fitted to your personal needs. The goal is to focus of prevention.

In house diagnostic testing and procedures included

EKGs, spirometry, breathing treatments, cryotherapy (freezing wart or pre-skin cancers), skin lesion removal, and laceration repair, just to name a few.

Wholesale prices on labs, imaging, and medication

We pass our savings on to you.

  • What type of patient do you see at Direct Doctor Care?

We see patients of any age 0 through 110 (older if you can get there). Check out our age-based memberships.

  • Does Direct Doctor Care charge any hidden fees?

No. We work hard to be transparent with our pricing. If we do charge extra for anything we will make the cost known before hand.

  • When Do I Pay for My Medications, Labs, Etc.?

We expect full payment at time of service.

  • How Much Will I Owe at My First Visit?

We charge an initial enrollment fee. In addition to this your first month's membership fee will be due. Please ask us about our discount on yearly memberships and our options for businesses.

  • Will I Benefit from A Membership with Direct Doctor Care if I Rarely Go to The Doctor?

We think so. Our primary focus is to keep members heathy. As such, we dedicate more time to prevention and lifestyle. However, when you do need care, we are available to help get you back on track. Most of the unexpected trips to the emergency department or urgent care can easily be prevented with a same day visit at Direct Doctor Care. With the average cost of an emergency department visit at nearly $2,000, you could save enough to justify the cost of a year's membership by avoiding the emergency department just one time.

  • What Type of Visits Are Appropriate via Phone or Webcam?

These visits are often referred to as telehealth or virtual visits and are really a supplement to good primary care. Initial visits to establish care should all be done in person. Virtual visits are great when a physical exam is not required such as the management of many chronic diseases. If a physical exam is required then it is best to come into the office for a face to face visit (e.g. coughs, sinus infections, ear infection, new pain, etc.). If there is any question just ask.

  • How Will I Know if Direct Doctor Care Is Right for Me?

Schedule a no obligation consultation and find out first hand.

  • Is Direct Doctor Care Providing Health Insurance?

No. Direct Doctor Care only provides a great way to receive high quality primary care. We recommend our members maintain some form of catastrophic health insurance. However, we will not turn you away if you are not insured.

  • Can I Submit Visit Claims to My Health Insurance Plan for Reimbursement?

Yes and no. If you are a patient of our direct primary care membership, you cannot submit claims to insurance. If you are a patient of ours who would like to use your insurance for your care, then yes, claims can be submitted.

  • Does Direct Doctor Care Manage Chronic Pain?

No. Direct Doctor Care physicians do not prescribe chronic pain medications. We do not have or keep any pain medication at our clinics. These are heavily regulated, need substantial monitoring, and have a high rate of diversion. Opioid Prescribing Guidelines have been released by the CDC to combat the prescription drug abuse epidemic, and those patients who use narcotics for chronic pain are encouraged to seek a pain treatment center. We also are very conservative in our prescribing of other controlled substances such as benzodiazepines like Xanax and Klonopin for anxiety.

  • Can I Cancel My Membership?

Yes, you may cancel at any time. We do not make you sign any long-term contracts. While there is no cost to cancel, if you plan re-enrolling there is a $200 re-enrollment fee.
